Spring 2013 CCERT

In the event of a campus-wide or city-wide emergency such as a severe winter storm, flood or major earthquake, employees, students and visitors to UP should be prepared to keep safe and possibly assist in recovery.

The UP Campus Community Emergency Response Team are volunteer staff, faculty, and students trained by the University CCERT Trainers and Portland Fire and Rescue to provide emergency disaster assistance within the campus and immediate surrounding neighborhood. CCERT members receive basic training on how to save lives and property until the professionals can arrive. They have the skills to help their neighbors without getting hurt themselves. CCERT members are:
•    Better prepared for self-sufficiency for 72-Hours following a disaster.
•    Able to provide emergency assistance to their family and immediate neighbors.
•    Able to work as an emergency response team to save lives and property in their neighborhood and campus in the event of a major disaster.
•    Able to guide untrained volunteers who will want to help others when disaster strikes.

The University of Portland offers the CCERT classes at no cost to people who live or work at the University of Portland. The University of Portland is committed to training and organizing a team at UP.

To join the UP CCERT program participants attend a total of 24 hours of hands-on training that includes the following:
